On 16 May a round table discussion, organized by the Crimean Tartar Resource Center on theme: “75th anniversary of deportation of Crimean Tartar People: consequences and prospects of recognition it as genocide by the legal bodies of Ukraine” was held in the informational agency “Ukrinform”. The event brought together the members of Mejlis of Crimean Tartar People, officials of the Mission of the President of Ukraine in AR of Crimea, scientists, lawyers, historians and activists.
The interlocutors discussed the issues related to criminal qualification of deportation of Crimean Tartar People in accordance with the international and national standards, including the activity of the Prosecutor’s Office in AR of Crimea in this direction and challenges for international cooperation to investigate this Soviet –era offence against humanity.
The Head of the Department of International Connections of the Mission Yevhen Samukha called on the investigators to work creatively and to seek alternatives in gathering material evidence of genocide because the RF being the descendant of the Soviet regime will never provide the Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office with the archives concerning the grounds and circumstances of deportation even within the framework of international legal assistance.
