On 4 June 2021, at the initiative of Ukraine’s Kazakhstani Elshiligi / Embassy of Ukraine in Kazakhstan, an online lecture by the Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Anton Korynevych was held for students, media of Kazakhstan and Central Asia and representatives of the Ukrainian community.
The lecture focused on de-occupation of Crimea, in particular the main points of the upcoming Inaugural summit of the Crimean Platform and the importance of approving the Strategy of de-occupation and reintegration of the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol as the main priority document on human rights and freedoms violated as a result of the temporary occupation of the Crimean peninsula by the Russian Federation.
Particular attention was paid to the introduction of the draft Law of Ukraine “On Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine” to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which is a historically important step for legislative definition and consolidation of the status and guarantees of Indigenous peoples of Ukraine, as well as future development strategy.
Anton Korynevych outlined in details the situation with human rights violations on the territory of the Crimean peninsula: numerous persecutions of Crimean Tatars; ban on the highest representative and executive body of the Crimean Tatars – the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People; politically motivated arrests, searches and detentions of those who in one way or another disagree with the occupation regime; militarization and propaganda in the field of education; restrictions on religious freedom and freedom of speech. During the discussion, the Permanent Representative answered the questions of the participants of the event, including the rules of entry of foreigners into the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
The Mission is thankful to the Embassy of Ukraine in Kazakhstan for arrangement of the lecture as well as all participants for their interest in Ukrainian Crimea subject.
