On 20 September 2018 the Head of the Department of International Connections of the Mission Yevhen Samuha and the Chief Consulatant Valeria Pakhomova took part in the round table “Russian Aggression: Harmonization of Sanctioning Policy of Ukraine with the International Partners”, organized by the Committee of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Foreign Affairs.
The participants of the round table were the Head of the Committee of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Foreign Affairs Hanna Hopko, the Deputy Head of the Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information Policy Sergiy Vysotsky, the Head of the Committee on National Security and Defense Andriy Levus, the director of nongovernmental organization “Ukrainian Strategic Initiative and Defense” Ashot Topchyan, the Head of the staff of the Nongovernmental organization “Free People” Dmytro Zhmailo, the members of the Committees and their Secretariats` officials, representatives of the central executive bodies, journalists.
The sanctioning policy gaps and the modalities to eliminate them was the core issue for discussion as well as issues of economic de-occupation of Ukraine and the current international sanctioning mechanisms to be implemented to speed up the process of de-occupation of the temporarily occupied territories. The need to harmonize the Ukrainian sanctioning policy together with the partner states of Ukraine was pointed out. The officials of the Mission stressed on the abolishment of the most of rules of the Law of Ukraine “On Creation of the Free Economic Zone “Crimea” and on Peculiarities of Exercising Economic Activity in the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine”. The need for effective monitoring the sanctions implementation carried out by the Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On External Economic Activity” was emphasized. In addition the officials of the Mission pointed out the current challenges in the implementation of the Law of Ukraine “On Sanctions” and the possible ways of rectifying them.
