In Kyiv, the events, devoted to the 75th anniversary of the Crimean Tartars deportation from their historic motherland -Crimea by the Soviet regime were held with the participation of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, members of Mejlis of Crimean Tartars People, the First Deputy of the Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in AR of Crimea Izet Gdanov and the public.
During the Requiem, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko noted that nowdays, Crimean Tartars in Crimea suffered from the same persecution and harassment as 75 years ago in the Soviet era.
“Crimea must be returned to Ukraine and the Ukrainian sovereignty must be restored in the Crimean peninsula. In addition, I have never been doubted this for a minute. That will definitely happen”, emphasized Petro Poroshenko and commended all Crimean Tartars for their courage and unity.
The President of Ukraine also noted that the legal implementation of inalienable right to self-identification of the Crimean Tartars People as Indigenous People of Ukraine within Ukrainian Independent State should be completed.
The Head of the State said that the efforts of the Ukrainian authorities should be invested in preservation and enlargement the international support of Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression as well as improvement of sanction pressure on Russia to release all Kremlin detainees.
The Head of Mejlis of Crimean Tartar People Refat Chubarov in his speech commended Petro Poroshenko for his consistent support of Crimean Tartars and his call to strengthen the international pressure against the Russian aggression and occupation of Crimea.
Refat Chubarov expressed his confidence that recent recognition of the deportation of Crimean Tartars as genocide by Latvia Saeima was only the beginning for the restoration of historic and political justice regarding Soviet and Russian repressions in Crimea.
